Off With the Pixies Studio (a CoLabs 2025 impact member) is a regenerative biodesign + biomaterials studio on a mission to turn waste into wonder, founded by Chloe. Transforming overlooked ‘resource streams’ into beautiful, high-performance materials for a more circular world. Their work sits at the intersection of experimentation, design craft, and ecological storytelling: playful in spirit, serious in impact.
Their hero material, OysterX, is a biomaterial ‘born of the sea’ and is crafted from discarded oyster shells collected from local restaurants and hospitality venues, then transformed into sculptural, high-performance bioceramics. It’s designed for circular living from the start: OysterX tiles can even be composted at end-of-life, returning gently to the Earth (or oceans) rather than landfill.
OysterX responds to the big, messy stuff: the massive volume of shell waste and the extractive footprint of conventional tiling. By shifting the story from linear to regenerative, Off With the Pixies Studio is helping redefine what ‘materials’ can be — and what we can make when we treat waste as the means to a beginning, not the means to an end.
