Aus Kelp

Chris and Chelsea from AusKelp are working to build Australia’s first commercial, large-scale, environmentally friendly kelp company (with some help from the CoLabs team). They are working with Golden kelp, a high-value, sustainable, zero-input algae that don’t require fertiliser, pesticides or chemicals to grow. It’s also one of the fastest-growing plants on earth. Get this, 1 hectare of kelp can sequester up to 18 tonnes of CO2.

Since starting at CoLabs, we’ve helped AusKelp seed their first few test lines of kelp, as well as helped them find an awesome lab assistant, Georgina.

We’re super excited by Kelp’s potential as a viable petrochemical plastic alternative that can be used in fashion, the built environment, cosmetics and much more.
